Many do not realize that God calls every believer to be a defender of the faith. It is not enough to know what you believe—we must know WHY we believe it.
Scripture requires: “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have…” (1 Peter 3:15).
Apologetics is the field of study that helps believers increase their spiritual knowledge, confidence, and ability to be strong witnesses and defenders of the faith. The term “apologetics” comes from the Greek word apologia. It is a term with a legal tone, indicating a strong, reasoned reply or statement that defends one’s position.
Bible.org notes that forms of the word apologia appear 17 times in the New Testament.
